Gemstones for Vedic Taurus Rising

Gemstones for Vedic Taurus Rising

If you’re a Taurus ascendant in Vedic Astrology, Venus rules your whole chart. The #1 gemstone for you is usually a white sapphire.

Usually avoid: yellow sapphire, pearl, and red coral.

About Taurus rising

Taurus is the second sign of the zodiac, an earth sign of stability, patience, loyalty, and an appreciation for beauty and physical comfort. Taurus rising people feel secure with consistency and tend to make important decisions carefully.

Venus rules Taurus. It’s the planet of relationships, beauty, creativity, refinement, comfort, and enjoyment of life. For a Taurus ascendant, Venus rules your 1st house (you: your body, identity, appearance, and overall direction) and your 6th house (service, health, conflict, competition, and daily responsibilities).

White sapphire

White sapphire is the first gem I consider for a Taurus ascendant. Diamond is technically the primary gemstone for Venus, but I find many Taurus ascendants do better with white sapphire, because it’s more energetically grounding than diamond.

Wearing white sapphire strengthens Venus, your ruling planet. A good Venus gemstone can support:

  • Relationships and creativity
  • Refinement and beauty
  • Comfort and enjoyment of life
  • Your personal direction and appearance

How much it helps depends on where Venus sits in your chart, how strong it is, and how it relates to your other planets.

Taurus rising tells us that Venus rules your whole chart, so a Venus gemstone often works well. But the main question is whether wearing white sapphire will support relationships, creativity, comfort, and personal direction, or whether it could put more emphasis on health, service, conflict, and obstacles. Venus also rules the Taurus 6th house. A qualified Vedic Gemologist can help you determine if white sapphire is the right match for you.

What to look for in a Jyotish white sapphire

  • Natural and untreated
  • Transparent and very fine quality
  • Over 2 carats. A stone with exceptional clarity can be smaller, and quality matters more than size.
  • Any shape, as long as it’s well cut: symmetrical, and not so shallow that you can see straight through the center
  • Cloudy, heavily included, diffusion treated, glass filled, or heat treated stones don’t work for Jyotish.
  • Set open-backed, so light passes through and the stone lightly touches your skin

If you’d rather wear a diamond, look for at least 1 carat, G color or higher, VS1 clarity or higher, a very good to excellent cut, no fluorescence, and GIA certification.

Phenakite & white topaz

Phenakite and white topaz are the main Venus uparatnas I use for Taurus. (An uparatna is a substitute gem. It strengthens the same planet as the primary gem and carries the same astrological meanings, usually with a milder effect.)

Most people choose them because they’re more affordable than a suitable white sapphire or diamond. Their effect is gentler, so we offer them in larger sizes.

Phenakite is one of our favorites. It’s lesser known, but our customers report great results with it.

Other gems for Taurus

Blue sapphire (for Saturn) and emerald (for Mercury) are also important in many Taurus charts. Both planets can be highly useful for Taurus, but where they sit in your chart and how active they are for you right now still matter.

Blue sapphire from our collection

Blue sapphire

Saturn rules your 9th and 10th houses, which makes it a yogakaraka (especially good) planet for Taurus.

Blue sapphire can support discipline, endurance, responsibility, career stability, and steady long-term achievement.

Emerald from our collection

Emerald

Mercury rules your 2nd and 5th houses.

Emerald can support communication, learning, discernment, business judgment, and clearer financial decision making.

Gems to avoid: yellow sapphire, pearl, and red coral are usually not good for Taurus rising, unless your chart gives a specific reason to wear one.

Choosing a Jyotish gemstone

Jyotish gemstones should be natural, properly identified, and very fine quality. Treatment, transparency, color, clarity, size, and how the stone is set all matter.

Before you buy a gem or set it permanently, make sure its planet is a good one to strengthen in your chart.

Buying from us

  • 100% Accuracy GuaranteeIf a gem you buy from us is certified by a reputable lab with an identification or treatment other than what we disclosed, we refund the sale as soon as it’s verified. (For astrological gems, the reputable labs in the U.S. are GIA, AGL, and Stone Group Labs.)
  • Fair Price GuaranteeIf you find a gem of the same quality (color, clarity, cut, origin, lack of treatment, and weight) for a lower price per carat than you paid us, we’ll credit you the difference.
  • Two-week returns on unset gemsReturn an unset gem within two weeks, for any reason, in the same condition, and we refund it minus a small restocking fee. To try a different gem instead, you have three weeks to exchange it, and we cover the processing fees. Red coral and pearl sales are final, because they’re porous and absorb the wearer’s natural body oils. Gems that have been set in jewelry are also final sale.
  • 3-day memo to see a gem in person (U.S.)We send the gem insured, with a credit card authorization, so you can see it and test it at home with no obligation to buy. If you send it back, you pay only the shipping (FedEx, usually $60 to $90 each way). Call 800-559-5090 to arrange one.

Why the full chart matters

Your rising sign is the first place to start, but it doesn’t show us the whole picture. Where your planets are placed, how strong or weak they are, your current planetary periods, and your intentions for wearing a gemstone all impact which one you should wear.

In a full written gemstone consultation, I look at your birth chart, your actual planetary placements, your current periods, any intentions you share for wanting to wear a gemstone, and I recommend the best gem for you with that additional context.

Consultations are $108, and that’s credited back with the purchase of any gemstone over $500. I’ll need your exact birth time to load an accurate chart.
