Green Tourmaline

Green tourmaline is the “uparatna,” or secondary gemstone, for Mercury in Jyotish (Vedic Astrology). All of our natural Brazilian green tourmaline are the finest quality available and a deep green color. It’s not as potent as emerald, so it should be a larger size for good results.

Tourmaline is routinely subject to very low heat treatment, so low that it doesn’t change the structure of the stone. It can’t be detected by laboratory instruments, so it can’t be certified as heated or unheated. Standard industry practice is to assume all tourmaline has been heated, since it can’t be formally verified. This does not impact the astrological properties of tourmaline, as the structure of the gem is not stressed or changed in any way.
