About Pisces rising
Pisces is the twelfth sign of the zodiac, a water sign of sensitivity, intuition, imagination, compassion, and spiritual depth. Pisces rising people are usually perceptive, creative, and idealistic, and interested in the deeper meaning behind their experiences. You feel most secure when your sensitivity and intuition have a meaningful outlet, along with enough structure to stay grounded.
Jupiter rules Pisces. It’s the planet of wisdom, prosperity, education, happiness, expansion, dharma, and spiritual knowledge. For a Pisces ascendant, Jupiter rules your 1st house (you: your body, identity, and overall direction) and your 10th house (career, reputation, authority, and public responsibilities).

Yellow sapphire
Yellow sapphire is the primary gemstone for Jupiter, and the first gem I consider for a Pisces ascendant. Wearing a yellow sapphire strengthens Jupiter, your ruling planet. A good yellow sapphire can support:
- Wisdom, optimism, and education
- Prosperity and happiness
- Spiritual understanding and a stronger sense of purpose
- Career direction and reputation
- Your personal direction and public responsibilities
How much it helps depends on where Jupiter sits in your chart, how strong it is, and how it relates to your other planets.
Pisces rising tells us that Jupiter rules your whole chart, so a Jupiter gemstone often works well. Jupiter also rules the Pisces 10th house, and a yellow sapphire helps when Jupiter is a good planet to strengthen in your chart. Pearl and red coral can also be excellent in some Pisces charts, and the placement and current activity of the Moon and Mars decide which gem deserves priority. A qualified Vedic Gemologist can help you determine which gem is the right match for you.

What to look for in a Jyotish yellow sapphire
- Natural, unheated, and untreated. Synthetic and heat-treated stones don’t work for Jyotish.
- At least 2 carats, though quality always matters more than size
- A pleasing lemon-yellow, sometimes a strong, rich golden yellow
- Transparent, eye-clean, and very fine quality. Tiny wisps of rutile silk are fine if they aren’t distracting, but cloudy or heavily included stones don’t work.
- Well cut and reasonably symmetrical, so it reflects light beautifully. A small window (a see-through area in the middle) is acceptable.
- Set open-backed, so light passes through and the stone lightly touches your skin. Gold is traditional, and so is the index finger for a ring.

Yellow topaz & citrine
Yellow topaz and citrine are the main Jupiter uparatnas. (An uparatna is a substitute gem. It strengthens the same planet as the primary gem and carries the same astrological meanings, usually with a milder effect.)
People usually choose them because they’re more affordable than yellow sapphire. Their effect is gentler, so we offer them in larger sizes. Natural yellow topaz should generally be at least 3 to 4 carats.
Citrine needs particular care, because much of the citrine on the market has been artificially heated.

Other gems for Pisces
Pearl (for the Moon) and red coral (for Mars) are also important in many Pisces charts.

Pearl
The Moon rules your 5th house (intelligence, creativity, children, and good karmic potential).
Pearl can support emotional steadiness, intuition, receptivity, creativity, and peace of mind. Whether it’s right for you depends on where the Moon sits in your chart.

Red coral
Mars rules your 9th house (dharma, teachers, and good fortune) and your 2nd house (wealth, family, and speech).
Red coral can support courage, initiative, determination, purposeful action, confident speech, and a stronger ability to protect and build your resources. Whether it’s right for you depends on where Mars sits in your chart.
Gems to avoid: emerald, diamond, white sapphire, blue sapphire, and ruby are usually not good for Pisces rising, unless your chart gives a specific reason to wear one.
Choosing a Jyotish gemstone
Jyotish gemstones should be natural, properly identified, and very fine quality. Treatment, transparency, color, clarity, size, and how the stone is set all matter.
Before you buy a gem or set it permanently, make sure its planet is a good one to strengthen in your chart.

Buying from us
- 100% Accuracy GuaranteeIf a gem you buy from us is certified by a reputable lab with an identification or treatment other than what we disclosed, we refund the sale as soon as it’s verified. (For astrological gems, the reputable labs in the U.S. are GIA, AGL, and Stone Group Labs.)
- Fair Price GuaranteeIf you find a gem of the same quality (color, clarity, cut, origin, lack of treatment, and weight) for a lower price per carat than you paid us, we’ll credit you the difference.
- Two-week returns on unset gemsReturn an unset gem within two weeks, for any reason, in the same condition, and we refund it minus a small restocking fee. To try a different gem instead, you have three weeks to exchange it, and we cover the processing fees. Red coral and pearl sales are final, because they’re porous and absorb the wearer’s natural body oils. Gems that have been set in jewelry are also final sale.
- 3-day memo to see a gem in person (U.S.)We send the gem insured, with a credit card authorization, so you can see it and test it at home with no obligation to buy. If you send it back, you pay only the shipping (FedEx, usually $60 to $90 each way). Call 800-559-5090 to arrange one.
Why the full chart matters
Your rising sign is the first place to start, but it doesn’t show us the whole picture. Where your planets are placed, how strong or weak they are, your current planetary periods, and your intentions for wearing a gemstone all impact which one you should wear.
In a full written gemstone consultation, I look at your birth chart, your actual planetary placements, your current periods, any intentions you share for wanting to wear a gemstone, and I recommend the best gem for you with that additional context.
Consultations are $108, and that’s credited back with the purchase of any gemstone over $500. I’ll need your exact birth time to load an accurate chart.
